Qualcomm is planning for a flagship-level “Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series” chipset to launch in Q3 or Q4, 2026 (September 2026). This series carries two chipsets: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 with model number SM8950 (standard model), and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro with model number SM8975 (pro model). The Pro model is going to be an expensive chipset for premium devices; it also carries faster performance and a more powerful GPU with cache. The standard model might use a toned-down GPU.

According to the leaks, the standard model might come for premium devices, and the pro model comes for “Ultra” or “Pro” devices. The pro model aims for higher performance and efficiency, and the standard model may have a lower cost, yet it is highly capable.

What to Expect from Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro are being prepared for flagship-level devices, which are going to launch in 2027, such as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Both chipsets are expected to carry the TSMC 2nm N2P node to improve power efficiency, transistor density, addressing thermal management during intensive tasks. Speaking about architecture, they carries is 2 + 3 + 3 CPU configuration, where the pro model is expected to support higher ~5.5GHz CPU clock speeds and especially the highest L2 cache in any smartphone chipset, while the standard model supports ~5GHz CPU clock speeds.

Both the chipset carries 3rd or 4th Gen Oryon cores, which are used to achieve higher performance gains, improved power efficiency, and advanced AI capabilities. Speaking about graphic memory, the standard model is expected to come with 12MB GMEM (Adreno HPM), followed by Adreno 845 GPU, whereas the pro model is expected to come with 18 MB graphic memory, followed by Adreno 850 GPU. The Gen 6 and Gen Pro also carry the X90 Modem, which focuses on speed, AI integration, and battery efficiency.

The Pro model supports LPDDR5X & LPDDR6 RAM with 8MB SLC, and 16MB L2 in a 4 x 24 configuration, whereas the standard model supports LPDDR5X RAM with 6MB SLC. The Gen 6 Pro might have greater GPU-heavy tasks and superior memory bandwidth. Both chipsets might use HPB from Samsung for better cooling, which helps the device to stay cool while playing games or running multiple apps simultaneously.

Talking about prices, there are rumours that the series has ~Rs. 49,999 to over Rs. 186,999, and especially pro models might have a high price for ultra flagship devices, chipsets around $300.

Overall Expectation…

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro are going to be one of the real game-changers in the flagship smartphone market. Although the standard model “Gen 6” is expected to offer a balance of speed and efficiency, the Pro model is aiming to extend the limits even more with improved GPU performance, advanced AI functionalities, and possibly higher pricing targeting ultra-premium smartphones.

These chipsets are having potential to cover all users’ needs for high-level smartphones in 2026, such as AI processing, raw performance, energy efficiency, and more. In short, if the leaks are accurate, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series will not be an upgrade in chipset, even though it could mark a major leap toward a smarter, faster, and more engaging smartphone experience.
